'Furnace' - A New Rock Night at The Baths Hall

Hi All,

The Baths Hall is to launch a new rock music night called Furnace. The first Furnace event will take place on Friday, 20 April with DJs spinning some of the best indie, rock and punk songs around. On Saturday, 19 May three local bands will take to The Baths Hall stage with DJs taking the party on until late into the night.

Rock music is in the fabric of the venue with the likes of The Who, Faith No More and The Pogues gracing the stage before The Baths Hall was rebuilt. In keeping with its rock traditions Furnace will cater for all different genres, with DJs spinning tunes from bands such as Metallica, The Stone Roses, The Maccabees and Green Day.

Three Scunthorpe-based bands will perform at Furnace on Saturday, 19 May – Gaskin, Protocol 5 and Skarlett Riot (pictured). Tickets for Furnace on Friday, 20 April will cost £5. Tickets for Furnace on Saturday, 19 May will cost £7. Tickets for both events will go on sale at 9am tomorrow.

Well, many have been complaining about the lack of local bands and the lack of rock music at The Baths. So this is our chance to support local live music and make those make the decisions believe that this type of event does have a future in Scunthorpe.

So let's all try and support ALL of these nights - I'm certainly going to make an effort too get to as many as I can! So tell your friends, your friend's friends and everybody else!

Our new band, Lady Monsoon is up and running! We're a four piece playing some unusual and some not so unusual covers. We are trying to put our own stamp on some of the covers too, nothing too stunning about that I suppose but we enjoy it!

Our line-up is:

Grimsby based band Dark Horizons are looking 2 people to fill a guitarist & bassist role.

Currently the band line up consists of a drummer, guitarist and vocalist
including studio quality recording equipment, PA system, spare amps and rehearsal space.

All auditions are treated with upmost respect and are easy going. We look at an audition as getting to know you as a person, your musical tastes and general commitment than just musical ability. Theres no massive ego's, no band politics and everybody listens to each other in the band. We want everybody in our band to have the same amount of say & control

The style of the band is more of a blend each musicians tastes rather than simply calling the band rock/blues/metal/indie/ect....... We all are from different musical backgrounds and tastes so thers no pressure trying to fit to a perceived style/attitude/look unlike some auditions out there.

If you need transport to get to the audition (only if you live in grimsby or cleethorpes) we can arranged for you to be picked up, if getting equipment to the audition is a problem we have a range of guitar and bass amps here

We all are fully commited musicians with a passion to start gigging as soon as we can get a complete and rehearsed setlist

Welcome to our little thread !

"Loose Ends" have got together over the last few weeks with the intention of learning some different songs for the Grimsby Trawl charity night.

However five of us have met separately to this loose line up to try and form something that could eventually become a working band line up.

Hutch and myself have previously played in several bands together and we asked around those who might be interested in either this as the main band without being too heavy with time commitments or as a second unit to play with as well as his normal working duo.

The line up -

Acko - drums, some lead vocals and harmonies,

Hutch - rhythm / 2nd lead guitar, and harmony vocals,

Honda Rob - lead vocals, lead guitar, and harmony vocals,

Dave B. - bass guitar, harmony vocals and a couple of feature lead vocals,

Phill M. - all manner of keyboard sounds, harmony vocals, may even sneak the guitar in as well.

For the time being, we are learning some numbers for the charity night, and other members of the Forum have given their time to help us with this.

Thanks so far, and mentions for - Mark Cockerill, 3 Finger Jim, Keith from Feedback, hopefully Neil - DOG next Monday, and Stacy 85 when she gets across to rehearse her solo number.

Once we have done our bit for Vocalist Trev, we will be trying to get a full night's material together with the aim of being a gigging band by late Autumn.

Hi all.

Just wanted to let people know that there is a new Jam Session running every other Sunday at the Poacher in Scunthorpe. There is plenty of gear to use, including Guitars & Bass' (although you can bring your own too) plus drums and a nice little PA for those singerists..

We've had a couple of sessions so-far and they've been quite successful, but it's always going to make a better Jam Session if there are more talented performers to keep things interesting.

It would be great to see any performers of any style, as well as all of you's out there who just want to come and watch.

Things Kick off at around 2:30pm and the next Jam is on this Sunday (25th March).

I personally look forward to seeing you all.

The downside - very battered, only does one sound. (some pots not working right but easy amp to service if you know what you're doing)
The upside - it's a great warm, clean sound and goes well with pedals.
Using a chorus it sounds very much like a roland jazz chorus.
Nice reverb too.

The popular Sunday afternoon Open Mic events have moved from The Woolpack in Brigg, to The Exchange in Brigg, following the departure of landlord John.

We will be holding these on the last Sunday of the month between 3 and 6pm and all musicians and singers are welcome - all will get an opportunity to perform!

The next Open Mic will be on Sunday 26th February (and the last Sunday of each month subsequently).

Starts at 3pm finishes 6pm. PA & mics provided and there is also usually a drum kit & bass rig (guitarists usually prefer to bring their own amps).

Does anyone know of a decent s/h guitar amp going cheap as im looking for one for my lad .........he aint getting his fingers on the Cornford or the Bluesbreaker just yet lol.

He has started to play guitar and doing quite well at his Rock school and could do with an amp around the 50w mark. He has a peavey rage 15w but its about had it.

Just got back from the Horn, Blistered have been showing off their new members, being the second guitarist and the drummer. They have also squeezed in about 8 new covers. I know these guys also play at the Brok Ox in Ulceby and also in the Red Lion in Barton. he new chaps put in a good performance tonight, and I think after afew gigs they will have settled in well .... check em out if you see them advertised.

Remembering Song Lyrics

Hi!

My musical friend and I have been rehearsing for a while and have done a couple of local busks for charity. I just wondered if anyone could give me any tips on how they remember song lyrics, or do you take printed lyrics? Is it simply the case that you just rehearse the same songs over and over until they stick or is there something which might aid my efforts?

Hoping for a wonder cure to my lyric blindness, so any constructive advice would be appreciated, thanks!
